We just celebrated the end of another fun, successful basketball season for both boys that had some bruised and bloody moments along the way. I thought we were done relieving pain of sports for a while but then one of the basketball coaches mentioned that there was community track coming up and that she thought my youngest would benefit from it. I admit he’s not the fastest guy out there but he wasn’t interested in running. I told her thanks but he probably wouldn’t want to do it. He overheard some of a later conversation with the coach and once he heard that the track coach was a previous Olympian he quickly decided that he wanted to run on the track team. I was totally surprised. Way to go Mom for counting him out before even giving him a chance, right? I felt so bad. After asking if they were truly interested I went to the community rec center and signed both boys up for track. The family that runs together stays fit together.
I enjoy running. Most days this winter it’s been running on the treadmill but now that spring weather seems to *finally* be showing up I am ready to hit the trails and pavement outside. There are some slight drawbacks to running outside in the spring and summer for me though. One- my allergies and seasonal headaches and two- my bad knee and lower back problems. I messed up my knee last summer in a bounce house, yes, I said I was in a bounce house. I went to the Dr. nothing and was showing up broken but there was something definitely wrong with it. I wrapped it in a knee brace and had crutches for a little while. It’s better now for the most part but some days I will still have some issues with it. Same for my lower back. I have a back brace I have to wear sometimes because right after I had my oldest son I was cleaning my shower and did something to my lower back. Both problems are not constant, they come and go every few months.
We had temperatures in the 70′s this week. My allergies let me know really quick that spring weather is approaching. I have been stopped up and congested for two days now. I went to Walgreens to get some allergy medicine for both the boys and I and to stock up on items for our on the go sports kit to keep in the van or my purse.
