Wilton Sugar Sheets & Punch. Cut. Decorate! #Giveaway #ChristmasInJuly

If you have visited the past couple weeks you may have noticed the snazzy button above on my sidebar. It has been there as a hint that a fun giveaway was on the way. The Christmas in July Giveaway Hop is hosted by Just Married with Coupons, Matter of Cents and Money $aving Michele. The giveaway listed here will be open July 25-31 and is a part of the Christmas In July giveaway hop that lasts all week and has over 100 bloggers participating with giveaways worth $50 or more. My Christmas in July giveaway sponsor is Wilton. Ever since I started baking/ decorating cakes I have used Wilton. I learned most of what I know about cakes from my Nana and pretty much all she used was Wilton products. I have some of her Wilton cakes pans that are at least 20 years old. My love for cake decorating has grown thanks to Wilton.

Wilton has recently introduced a new line of products for decorating. Have you seen the Wilton Punch, Cut, Decorate! line? Wilton has taken cake decorating and made it easy for just about anyone to do. If you think you can’t have a cake that looks professionally decorated you are wrong! You can use the Wilton Punch, Cut, Decorate tools to cut the sugar sheets (just like regular paper) to jazz up cakes, cookies and more. Using the punches and inserts, rotary cutter, circle cutters reminded me of scrapbooking. You take a sugar sheet and the punch design or cutter that you want and a person with no professional training can decorate a cake that can look like you paid big bucks for right in your own kitchen.

The sugar sheets are similar to fondant and the edible image sheets that you can get on cakes. The sugar sheets are flexible and no they dont taste like your eating paper they have a buttercream taste to them. You can find sugar sheets in a variety of solid colors along with alphabet letters, dots and even animal print. Try to keep your hands dry because if the prints get wet they will smudge and smear. Also if left out the sugar sheet pieces can turn brittle and crack so it’s great that Wilton offers the sugar sheets in a resealable package. You’ll want to keep what you are not currently working with sealed or covered so you don’t lose any of it. The sugar sheets can be used to make a flat design, you can also layer pieces and even fold, quill or curlicue the sugar sheets to add dimension to your designs. An example of this would be if you don’t have the steady hand or patience to try and make a rose with fondant or icing you can make a rose with sugar sheets and a punch cut. You can also use the FoodWriter edible color markers to color on or write messages on your sugar sheets instead of writing with icing. To do many of the techniques with the sugar sheets you will need some piping gel or a little water and a paint brush (which is what we used on this cake) to complete the desired look of the technique. Using the Wilton Punch. Cut. Decorate! tools and sugar sheets is simple enough that with a little help from me they were able to decorate the cake below mostly on their own. I let them do the punches and I used the rotary cutter. I look forward to doing another cake in about a week by myself for a birthday and having it look fabulous. Gotta give my boys credit though they didn’t do too bad for beginners.

The Wilton punch sets, circle cutter and rotary cutter are all easy to use. The pieces snap together so I’m not digging through my drawer looking for all the parts that I will need. For all you dishwasher users you have to hand wash these, they are not dishwasher safe.
